Last week, I walked down George street in Sydney and there was a buzz in the streets I hadn’t seen since the pre COVID days. A sun filled long weekend has given us a taste of the summer to come. As the city comes alive again, so will the hospitality industry.

Are you over Zoom? Ready to head out for a beer and meal with friends or work colleagues? Who will serve up that frothy pale ale? It could be traditional hospitality employees — students, temporary visa holders or new graduates — or one of the tens of thousands who’ve never worked in a restaurant before — a travel agent, a Qantas steward or uni employee.

Restaurateurs, café and small business owners are on the cusp of the most amazing recruitment drive of the decade. They’ll want to move fast and get the right people fast as they come out of the COVID hangover. Don’t bother sending in your CV. The world’s moved past that. They want to see you. How will you get seen? How will you get hired?
